Targeting Interest Areas

As of now, I have focused more towards which aspects of machine learning interest me. The two areas that I have narrowed down are machine learning in space exploration and stock market applications of machine learning. These are two areas in which I have found a great passion in: it has been a childhood dream of mine to be involved with space exploration and seeing that the field I plan on working for in the future has a hand within space exploration is very thrilling, secondly, the stock market is a efficient way to earn money on the side and I plan on using the methods within my main career in the stock market to maximize my profits.

Space Exploration:

Space exploration is a growing field as can be seen by the recent feats accomplished by Elon Musk and his company SpaceX by creating a reusable space shuttle. The potential growth of this field and the opportunity for machine learning engineers to find success within it has drawn me to look for future opportunities within this career. Machine learning engineers mainly provide assistance with navigational systems for space shuttles and rovers, rocket building, rocket landing etc. Rather than accomplishing any merit based awards or other types of accomplishments this week, I have successfully thought through how I can help within space exploration. My goal is to write navigation algorithms for SpaceX or another space exploration company. I will provide unique algorithms to shuttles and rovers which will allow them to traverse the vast and dangerous environment of space. The machine learning engineers who work in this area of space exploration are required to be well versed in R Python, Java, Javascript as well as advanced mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics. It is recommended for engineers to have a masters degree in artificial intelligence, machine learning or computer science and to be able to make large coding projects for the navigational algorithms. All in all, this is a career that requires a lot of grit and patience and I am glad that I have narrowed my interest down to this field at an early stage so that I can take the proper steps required to succeed.

Stock Market:

The stock market is a way for professionals to gain money on the side while working a full time job. It can help professionals multiply their money if they know what they are doing, therefore, it is a tool linked with financial success. Over the course of the past week, I have noted down this as one of my target areas as machine learning has a lot of possibilities to prove useful. The way machine learning can be used in the market is by providing accurate predictions of stocks based on previous data. This is an incredibly tough task to do as the stock market is known for being very unpredictable due to insider trading and a variety of private matters within companies. However, the formulas that many people use to predict volatility and trends of the stocks can be calculated by machine learning which saves time for humans. By making the computers do the hard work, humans can spend more time deciding which stocks would provide an impressive return on investment rather than spending a lot of time calculating just to find that the stock is bound to go down. Through machine learning, depending on the complexity of the machine learning algorithm, a person can simply enter the stock which he or she may be interested in and get a result of the stock’s future within minutes.

Concluding thoughts:

Now that I have pinpointed my interests within machine learning, I can now begin learning the basics of machine code. Currently I am well versed in the Java programming language but it is time to expand my knowledge and tackle machine code. I aim to begin trading via machine learning as soon as possible and I will keep learning more about machine code throughout my high school and college years until I land a job as a space exploration machine engineer.
