This week has been very busy as I have been scouting and contacting professionals which I listed on my ISM Mentor contact sheet. So far, I have reached out to 12 professionals whether that be through email or phone calls. Throughout this week and next week, I hope to have a few interviews set so that I may choose a mentor who may be ready to teach me the ropes of the artificial intelligence/technology industry. I have one main contact picked out as a person who is likely to help me and will provide me with the best possible mentorship. I’ve yet to reach out to this person as I would like to get some experience with phone calls before I do so as this person is of high priority for me. She has taught artificial intelligence classes at temples and I believe her understanding of the field along with her teaching skills will equate to a great mentor for me. Nevertheless, I will keep searching for professionals besides her, but my goal is to land her as a mentor.
The phone conversations and voicemail have become much simpler for me to do on the spot. I can attribute this to my practice outside of class as well as just making calls and becoming accustomed to the objective of reaching out to a mentor. My goal is to get started on my career journey sooner rather than later. For this, I must acquire a mentor fast, but more importantly, the mentor must be well prepared to teach me as well as interested in having a student by their side. I think that this process is stressful but it is worth the struggle as a strong and knowledgeable mentor will allow me to grow myself to meet the expectations of the professional industry.
