This was my first week of reaching out to professionals within the technology industry and after reaching out to multiple professionals, I was able to land one meeting with a professional that I found to be very enthusiastic and informative in regards to the field of machine learning. His work was something I found very intriguing as he used machine learning and artificial intelligence in a form that I had never thought about before. The professional’s name was Nikhil Pareek and he was an instructor at the UTD Computer Science outreach program. He was incredibly experienced in the field and is currently working at a medical company to use machine learning in an anatomical manner. He uses machine learning to provide aid to those who are visually impaired. In addition to this, he explained a phenomenon that is always told to us as kids but is often never confirmed. He logically explained how the other senses take over when a person loses his or her vision and it was something that I found very cool.

His explanation and work, in general, has opened my eyes to a brand new area of machine learning. Previously, I had thought that machine learning was simply based on computational values and digital predictions. Seeing how he incorporated machine learning in his medical and neuroscience work has inspired me to analyze new aspects of the field. I will continue to reach out to more professionals, but I believe that I have an outstanding potential mentor in Mr. Pareek.
